Minnesota Republican Norm Coleman officially announced his reelection campaign to the U.S. Senate today in a campaign that will be closely watched as one of the most contested this election cycle. Coleman currently serves as the state’s senior Senator and was elected in 2002, just eleven days after his challenger, then incumbent Senator Paul Wellstone, was killed in a plane crash. His likely opponent is author and political satirist Al Franken, the presumptive Democratic-Farmer-Labor nominee. Polls conducted in January showed Franken leading Coleman by three points.

Remember when Norm Coleman said “these conservative kids don’t fuck or get high like we do”
well..I don’t because I wasn’t alive…but he said it and it makes me smile
also..in 1993 he said “I am a lifelong Democrat.”

The article the picture is from was in the City Pages last September. It was a decent retrospective on the senator’s war-protesting days.
