Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican Senator from Rhode Island, known for his moderate stances, was the lone GOP Senator to vote against the Iraq War Resolution. In his new book, he rips into Hillary Clinton’s claim that she was “duped” into voting for the resolution.
“Being wrong about sending Americans to kill and be killed, maim and be maimed, is not like making a punctuation mistake in a highway bill,” Chafee writes. “They argue that the president duped them into war, but getting duped does not exactly recommend their leadership. Helping a rogue president start an unnecessary war should be a career- ending lapse of judgment, in my view.”
He argues, rightly so, that Democrats put their political ambitions before common sense in 2002. Chafee, who last year became an Independent is supporting Barack Obama.
