Well, that was quick. The House of Reps passed the spending bill that included the $70 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This probably won’t be the last war spending bill we pass before the end of ‘08. Bush asked for $196 billion, and at our current rate of spending $2 billion a week in Iraq alone, $70 billion is only going to last for so long. Completely missing the point, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel commented on the bill.
“It’s an undeniable fact — or, should I say, an inconvenient truth — that things are getting better in Iraq, and I think the American people are noticing,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said Wednesday.
There is so much wrong with that statement, I’m not even going to start. I wonder what we could do with that $2 billion a week here in the U.S.?
